Bassdozer's Crankbaits

Bassdozer is pleased to provide you with a full line of crankbaits, lipless rattlebaits, floating minnows and topwater poppers.

Bassdozer's crankbaits are designed, molded and painted in the USA in the same factory that produces these same lures for numerous other name brands. Do these baits look like some of your old favorites, or look like the same productive baits sold in other catalogs or tackle shops? Yes they are the same - just in a different package with a different name on it. Bassdozer's crankbaits come off the same assembly line as many popular name brand baits on the market.

Bassdozer's own personal favorite colors like Scared Shad and Herring are NOT available elsewhere. These are colors custom-made by Bassdozer.

They are good lures. Well-made. They definitely catch fish. I've used them myself for some time now.

When I first tried them, they impressed me how little tuning they needed right out of the box. Most other crankbaits, even Lucky Crafts or any name brand, tend to require more prep work to tune them up and get them to swim properly. However, Bassdozer's crankbaits come from the factory without needing as much tuning on average as others. That is a strong indication they are made more precisely, the assembly and finishing, than many other cranks out there.

I have journeyed down the high-end hardbait road, meaning crankbaits, jerkbaits and topwaters costing $15 to $20 apiece. This high road reached a point where all I threw were Lucky Craft hard baits and a few other high dollar dolls almost exclusively, and I believed it was the best thing to do at that time.

Keep in mind, the high-end bait boom here only started about six years ago when Lucky Craft began to market its hardbaits in the USA. In that timeframe, I went from no high-end baits to being one of the first in the country to use some of them, and that built to a peak of almost exclusively using high-end hardbaits. It was a worthy experience while it lasted, but I have slowly descended off that "high end only" trend.

I have come back down to a more moderate and meaningful approach today. I think I had to go there first to be able to say, "Hey these lower priced baits lack some of the technical precision and realistic good looks and the feeling of luxury, but fish whack them just the same."

A few years ago I would not have said that, I was totally sold on the high-end baits. Once I got to master them all, I began to mix back in a few lower-priced baits. Reason is, guys fishing tournaments against me were doing at least as well as I was. They were using economical baits like Super Spooks, Normans, Bandits, and you know what? You can get most of them on sale under $5. So I had to see if the high-end baits I had gotten hung up on were all that high and mighty any more? I can't say I look at the high-end baits through rose-colored glasses today. Some of the more economical baits, including Bassdozer's crankbaits work at least as good.

There are four sizes/depths of Bassdozer's crankbaits. The Shallow Diver and Medium Diver can generate an irregular "humpy" jerky motion which sets them apart from the more precise and mechanical swims of most other crankbaits. Fish sometimes want this irregular action more than a perfect fluid crankbait action. You may hear pros refer to this "hunting" action as the reason why they seek out the old vintage crankbaits no longer made.

Bassdozer's Medium Diver closely resembles a Bandit 200. The Deep Diver is hard to tell apart from a Norman Deep Little N in appearance. Bassdozer's Super Deep Diver is one of only a few crankbaits to dive below 12 feet when casting for bass.

Regarding Bassdozer's Popper, the Floating Minnow and the Lipless Rattlebait, I've caught a ton of fish on these. All three of these are GREAT baits. The Popper has a really good rattle noise. The Floating Minnow is more of a surface lure than a diver, but if you work it like a topwater, it catches just a ton of fish on top. The Lipless Rattlebait, I can only describe as a more natural presentation than other popular lipless rattlebaits.

Bassdozer's Crankbaits

With four models, there's a Bassdozer crankbait to cover most any type of cranking situation you may encounter.

The four sizes effectively cover the entire water column from shallow to medium to deep to super deep:

  1. Bassdozer Shallow Diver. 5/16 oz. Dives 1-4 ft. Floats. 2" body (excluding lip). #6 hooks. This square-lipped shallow runner works best with a slow to medium retrieve. It has a light rattle. If desired, you may upsize the #6 rear hook to a #4, which does not affect the action.

  2. Bassdozer Medium Diver. 3/8 oz. Dives 4-8 ft. Floats. 2" body (excluding lip). #4 hooks. This model has the weight and medium depth range that is useful most of the time. It has a high-pitched rattle.

  3. Bassdozer Deep Diver. 1/2 oz. Dives 8-12 ft. Floats. 2-3/4" body (excluding lip). #4 hooks. This one has the loudest rattles of the four models.

  4. Bassdozer Super Deep Diver. 7/8 oz. Dives 12-15 ft. Floats. 3" body (excluding lip). #2 hooks. This is one of only a few crankbaits that can get super deep into the 12 to 15 foot range. It has a little less chatter, more like a drum beat to its rattle.

The Mustad hooks are super sharp and are not easily able to marry each other. The front hook is not able to catch on the diving lip in all four models. The diving lips are integrated parts of the bodies. So the lips cannot loosen or break off. These are common faults of other crankbait brands - poor quality factory hooks, hooks that marry or catch on the diving lip, loose or broken lips - but Bassdozer's crankbaits do not have these faults.

All four Bassdozer crankbait sizes come in many of the same colors. The colors here are productive colors for bass - and also hard colors to find elsewhere.

  • Natural Shad. Works under any conditions, especially clear water.
  • Blue Chartreuse Shad. Works under any conditions, especially stained water.
  • Panfish. Also known as Fire Tiger, it mimics bluegill, sunfish, warmouth, crappie, yellow perch - any panfish that bass eat anywhere.
  • Holographic. Refract or separate sunlight (or any ambient light) into the full spectrum of many individual colors. The colors being refracted constantly change and flash as the lure moves through the water. The holographic colors reflect the present water and light conditions and also provide the illusion of an excited baitfish that is "flushing" and emitting color signals. The holographic finish is imprinted directly onto the lure. It is not a separate film or foil layer taped onto the lure.

The standard colors and the holographic finishes are durable and will not chip, scrape or peel off easily.
